"Ambient albums tend to have unique outlooks on how to use sound and space, yet their production values often obviate concerns about their implementation. Sloum’s music has the production of a shoe-gaze album, but the motifs of an ambient album. This album’s overarching wall-of-sound envelops the listener by placing an array of odd noises, mechanical and natural alike, at the fore. The music possesses an evolving constancy; it seems to serve as the foundation for small noises to grow and evolve. To this end, the bird-chirping samples at the beginning of “Box in the Middle of the Meadow” and the found sounds at the end of “Night Time in Owlsa” give the album a sense of unity, by beginning and ending the album with odd yet palatable field recordings. In other words, even though so many sounds appear between the two songs, the field recordings seem to have a storyline of their own, which makes the act of listening to this release all the more interesting.

At under forty minutes, [Night Time in the Owsla] is brief, albeit rewarding. Multiple listens are needed in order to appreciate the sonic nuances found therein. Ambient, drone, and field recording fans should find the album enjoyable and worthwhile."
